West Yorkshire Firefighter Taking On 108 Mile Endurance Challenge

"It's going to be wintry, it's dark my 5pm, the terrain is boggy and hilly on the Pennine Way. It's going to be tough!"

A West Yorkshire firefighter, based in Bingley, has been telling Pulse 1 & Pulse 2 he's taking on one of the toughest endurance races in the world this weekend.

Dave Dixon is competing in the Montane Spine Challenger which starts on Saturday.

It is a 108-mile, non-stop race on part of the Pennine Way between Derbyshire, and Hawes in North Yorkshire.

Participants have to navigate themselves along the route, which a lot of which is done in darkness, using compasses and GPS trackers. Mr Dixon is also a member of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association and is raising money for the group which needs £45,000 every year to keep going.

He told Pulse 1 & Pulse 2: "We have trained up to 4mph, so if we can do that, and allow a few stops for a brew and the odd mishap, our time should be round the 32 hour mark.

"But we will just have to see.
